SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY
Guangzhou True Light High School is one of the first national model high schools with excellent teaching as well as training headmasters in Guangdong Province. Our school was founded in 1872 by Miss Harriet Noyes who traveled from distant America and built up the former school, ¡°True Light Academy,¡± with her selfless love. Guangzhou True Light High School has achieved leaping developments in recent years. True Light has been awarded first place for graduation work in Guangzhou for 17 consecutive years. There have been a number of students admitted to world famous colleges and universities, such as Columbia University, University of California, Boston University, Japan's Tokyo University, Oxford, Cambridge University, London Royal Imperial University, Toronto University, McGill University, Sydney University, etc.
To encourage more students to study abroad, in 2013, our school founded the Barat-True Light Joint Course Program administrated by the school foreign affairs office. Our program offers American high school courses and AP courses, which allow students to easily matriculate to tertiary education in the United States and other countries worldwide. This program operates as a comprehensive three-year high school. If a student decides to study abroad, he/she can transfer to Barat-True Light Joint Course Program from our school¡¯s regular classes. Once the student transfers to our program, he/she will not take College Entrance Examinations (CEE or Gaokao) in China.
Students in the Barat-True Light Joint Course Program take part in an extensive curriculum that is strictly college preparatory in nature. Currently, we offer both approved Chinese high school courses and foreign courses taught by native English speaking teachers from Barat Academy in Missouri, including AP World History, AP Environmental Science, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Psychology, AP Calculus BC, Pre-Calculus, Global Issues, and Literature.
The school foreign affairs office issues the academic transcripts. The grading system of Barat-True Light Joint Course Program includes both a 0-100 and Pass/Fail system. Some subjects, such as, P.E, I.T, Music and Art are shown as ¡°P¡± on the transcript. Our Program does not rank students.
According to the Chinese Education System, students finish their grade 9 in junior high school, and grade 10-12 in our program. Therefore, students must submit their grade 9 transcripts when they are admitted to our program. All university application documents are sent securely through our school.
